A nature walk along the Plateau de Margeriaz and its unusual karst formations. This circuit alternates between stretches in the forest, on the Alpine plains and large panoramas over the Plateau de la Leysse, the Massif de Belledone or the Massif de Mont Blanc.
As you follow the Sentier des Tannes et Glacières, you will walk over a urgonian limestone slab that is almost 120 million years old. This thick layer of reef limestone now slopes into the Vallée des Aillons, and bears the marks of several events which defined the geological history of the Massif des Bauges. Its incline was caused by the formation of the Alps, around 20 million years ago, and its typical karst morphology is the result of the erosion of the mountain under various (largely glacial) climates.
Access via the access route at the Margériaz ski resort, with parking once you arrive at the last bends. Next, take the forest path until the 'Place à Barban' where you will find an information panel marking the beginning of the path.
The Sentier des Tannes et Galcière can be accessed in winter using snowshoes and cross-country skis. Please stay on the path, there are many chasms on the surface of the plateau.
